The aim of this paper is to introduce the theory required to understand and identify pathophysiological processes and alterations in cognitive, emotional and social processes. Further the paper will explore the impact of findings which guide diagnostic reasoning and therapeutic interventions. Students will learn the essential concepts of pathophysiological processes and altered health states, including the nature and causes of disease, illness, disability and long-term conditions. Clinical scenarios within each module will draw on contemporary research to correlate the anatomical pathology with major clinical symptoms and signs.

This is a 15 point paper, which runs in Trimester B.

Trimester B is also made up of two blocks, separated by two weeks' Mid-Trimester teaching recess:

  • Block A: 9 weeks of teaching with a two week teaching recess in between. Within this block, teaching is conducted on-campus. Classes consist of 1 x 2 hour lecture, 2x 1 hour lecture, and 1 hour tutorial each week (Total: 4 hours lectures, 1 hour tutorial).

  • Teaching Weeks 1-8 (25th July through to the week beginning 12th September)

  • Teaching Recess: (19th September through to the week beginning 26th September)

  • Teaching Week 9 (3rd October to 9th October).

  • Block B: 8 weeks of Clinical (no in-class teaching), commencing 10th October, to the week of 28th November
